About the Project
Jackfruit Joy is SankalpTaru’s initiative to promote jackfruit tree plantation through
agroforestry, implemented across multiple state-led programs in India. It brings together environmental restoration and sustainable livelihood generation. Jackfruit trees (Artocarpus heterophyllus), native to India’s tropical landscapes, enhance green cover while creating long-term value for communities and farming households.
Through this initiative, jackfruit plantations deliver:
- Sustainable Income: Large fruit yield creates strong income potential through fresh consumption and value-added products
- Long-Term Asset: Productive for decades, offering sustained ecological and economic benefits
- Soil & Water Benefits: Improves soil structure, reduces erosion, and supports moisture retention
- Biodiversity Support: Provides habitat and food for birds and other fauna
- Nutritional Value: Rich in fiber and nutrients, often used as a plant-based food alternative
- Climate Resilience: Thrives in tropical conditions and contributes to carbon sequestration
By planting jackfruit trees across farms and community lands, we enable the development of resilient landscapes that support livelihoods, nutrition, and environmental restoration over the long term.
Q: What is Jackfruit Joy?
A: Our initiative to plant jackfruit trees across tropical Indian landscapes for nutrition, livelihood, and climate resilience.
Q: Where are jackfruit trees planted?
A: These trees are planted on farmers’ land or community restoration sites.
Q: What are the benefits?
A: Jackfruit delivers high-value fruit income, plant-based protein, and habitat for native biodiversity.
Q: How is the tree tracked?
A: Every tree is geo-tagged and mapped, enabling you to view its exact location on Google Maps satellite imagery through our integrated tracking interface. As satellite imagery updates over time, you can also observe the progressive growth of the plantation.
Q: Can I visit my tree?
A: Yes, the GPS coordinates shared by us let you visit your tree whenever you want.
