About the Project
Pune Community Plantation is part of SankalpTaru's Community Land Plantation Program, aimed at
increasing urban greenery and improving environmental health in Pune. As highlighted in the Pune Municipal Corporation's Environment Status Report 2017–18, the city is increasingly unable to manage rising levels of garbage, air, water, and noise pollution due to rapid population growth. SankalpTaru has expanded its Community Land Plantation Program to Pune's Dive village — just 35 kilometres from the main city — to help transform the region into a greener, healthier, and more sustainable urban environment.
Planted across community landscapes in and around Pune, this initiative promotes urban biodiversity while integrating native tree species to combat pollution and improve the ecological health of the city.
Through this initiative, community-based tree plantation delivers:
- Greener Urban Spaces: Increases urban tree cover to create cooler, healthier public spaces and counter the growing heat island effect in Pune
- Pollution Reduction: Native trees help reduce air, water, and noise pollution levels that the city's growing population continues to intensify
- Soil & Water Conservation: Recharges groundwater levels within the city, improves soil health, and enhances moisture retention in community landscapes
- Biodiversity Promotion: Encourages ecological balance by supporting native flora and fauna within Pune's urban and peri-urban environments
- Climate Resilience: Helps the city adapt to rising temperatures and changing climate conditions while improving carbon absorption through native tree cover
By supporting the Pune Community Plantation, you contribute to transforming Pune into a greener, cleaner, and more resilient city for generations to come.
