About the Project
Project Green Shivalik is part of SankalpTaru's Sustainable Agroforestry category, aimed at
strengthening agriculture and enhancing farmer livelihoods in Uttar Pradesh. Agriculture is a leading occupation in Uttar Pradesh, where most farmers practice monocropping. Erratic weather conditions and irregular rainfall patterns frequently lead to crop failure, leaving marginal farmers indebted and without a dependable source of income. SankalpTaru started Project Green Shivalik to provide these farmers with an additional source of income by transforming potentially cultivable lands into lush green fruit orchards and farms.
Planted across farmlands and community landscapes in Uttar Pradesh, this initiative promotes biodiversity while integrating fruit-bearing trees into traditional farming systems across the state.
Through this initiative, agroforestry-based ecosystems deliver:
- Strengthened Agriculture: Transforms monocropping farmlands into diversified fruit orchards, enhancing farm productivity and reducing the risk of total crop failure
- Enhanced Farmer Livelihoods: Diversified income through fruit cultivation provides marginal farmers with additional earnings beyond their primary crops
- Soil & Water Conservation: Improves soil fertility, prevents erosion, and enhances moisture retention across Uttar Pradesh's agricultural lands
- Biodiversity Promotion: Encourages ecological balance by supporting native flora and fauna across the state's farming landscape
- Climate Resilience: Helps farms adapt to erratic rainfall and changing climate conditions while improving carbon absorption across the region
By supporting Project Green Shivalik, you contribute to building resilient farming systems that empower farmers while restoring ecological balance in Uttar Pradesh.
Q: What is this project?
A: A SankalpTaru initiative that plants fruit-bearing trees on farmers' fields to restore livelihoods and biodiversity in the region.
Q: Where are trees planted?
A: Across farmer-partnered agroforestry land and community landscapes in the designated state, selected for ecological suitability.
Q: How is tree survival tracked?
A: Every tree is GPS-tagged, photographed, and monitored through periodic field visits and digital reporting by our on-ground teams.
Q: Do I get a certificate?
A: Yes, a personalised CerTreeficate is sent immediately after your contribution. Plant images with GPS coordinates are emailed within 48 hours of planting.
