Project Pasumai Tamil Nadu is part of SankalpTaru's Sustainable Agroforestry category, aimed at
strengthening agriculture and enhancing farmer livelihoods in Tamil Nadu. Since agriculture is the main source of income for rural farmers in the state, every year they suffer crippling debts due to severe crop loss caused by an acute shortage of water during non-monsoon seasons. The situation becomes particularly grave when farmers become trapped in debt cycles for not repaying loans on time, with adversities of failed harvests pushing many to extreme despair. SankalpTaru introduced Project Pasumai Tamil Nadu to uplift farmer livelihoods by introducing agroforestry to their traditional way of farming.
Planted across farmlands and community landscapes in Tamil Nadu, this initiative promotes biodiversity while integrating a rich variety of fruit-bearing trees into the state's traditional farming systems.
Through this initiative, agroforestry-based ecosystems deliver:

Q: How is tree survival tracked?
A: Every tree is GPS-tagged, photographed, and monitored through periodic field visits and digital reporting by our on-ground teams.
Q: Do I get a certificate?
A: Yes, a personalised CerTreeficate is sent immediately after your contribution. Plant images with GPS coordinates are emailed within 48 hours of planting.

Through this initiative, agroforestry-based ecosystems deliver:
- Strengthened Agriculture: Integrates diverse fruit-bearing trees with crops to enhance farm productivity and reduce dependency on rain-fed single-crop farming
- Enhanced Farmer Livelihoods: Diversified income through a variety of fruits helps break debt cycles, strengthen livelihood options, and reduce farmer distress
- Soil & Water Conservation: Improves soil fertility, prevents erosion, and enhances moisture retention to mitigate the impact of seasonal water shortages
- Biodiversity Promotion: Encourages ecological balance by supporting native flora and fauna while enriching the greenery of Tamil Nadu's agricultural landscape
- Climate Resilience: Helps farms adapt to water scarcity and changing monsoon patterns while improving carbon absorption across the state
